Beach Up Your Home for the Summer

Now that summer has arrived, many people are craving time on the beach. The beach represents relaxation and an escape from the stresses of life. Why not bring that stress-free beach feeling into your home? Here are a few tips and tricks to properly “beach up” your home!

Living Room

For the living room, you want to create an open and airy space. Disjointed placement of furniture and the cluttering of accessories is very “non-beach” and can negatively impact stress levels. Arrange your furniture to fully embrace the space in your living room.

Curtains also play a large room in the feel and aesthetics of a living room. Linen curtains with a soft color can really bring the beach vibe to a room. Be sure to use curtains that are heavy enough to block the sun but light enough to allow light to fill the room.

Furniture and Accessories

There is no need for molded plastic type furniture in a beach friendly room. Chairs in a beached up living room should look like outdoor chairs, but with more comfortable cushions. Natural woven chairs are perfect for a breezy beach styled room.

Couches should not have bold designs that catch the eye upon entry. A couch with a simple pattern is perfect for the natural look of a beach style room.  Try to match the color of the couch with the color of your linen curtains to optimize the flow of the room.

For any wood-based accessories, such as a mirror, choose a whitewashed style that resembles driftwood. A matching style of this kind with a mirror and a table can truly bring the beach feel to a room.

Kitchen

For a beach-resembling kitchen, you’ll want to choose white marble that looks as natural as possible.

Engineered or designed stone or marble detracts from the natural beach feel that you are looking for. Cream and light blue colors for the kitchen accessories works well to promote the airy and relaxing feel of a walk on the beach.

When it comes to beaching up a particular room or even your entire home, subtlety truly is key. A lot of beach inspired rooms or homes are many times overdone. This is usually due to an excess of engineered designs or “beach towel” inspired rooms rather than the simplicity of an actual beach visit.
